چکیده

Expansion growth in response to auxin in chicory root slices is greater than that reported for any other fleshy tissue. Responsiveness depends on time of harvest and duration of root storage.

Optimization of hairy root induction in chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) and effects of nanoparticles on secondary metabolites accumulation

Hairy root culture is an effective method to produce secondary metabolites. In fact, hairy roots are genetically and biologically stable and also they are able to produce metabolites without hormones. Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is one of the most important medicinal plants with valuable medicinal compounds. In this research, hairy roots were induced by different Agrobacterium rhizogenes str...

Retraction: Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) Root Extract Regulates the Oxidative Status and Antioxidant Gene Transcripts in CCl4-Induced Hepatotoxicity

The ability of Cichorium intybus root extract (chicory extract) to protect against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced oxidative stress and hepatotoxicity was evaluated in male rats. The rats were divided into four groups according to treatment: saline (control); chicory extract (100 mg/kg body weight daily, given orally for 2 weeks); CCl4 (1 ml/kg body weight by intraperitoneal injection for 2...

Differential root morphology response to no versus high phosphorus, in three hydroponically grown forage chicory cultivars

Forage chicory is a productive forage resource for eastern North America; however, many soils in the region are acidic and deficient in P and might restrict the widespread use of forage chicory. There is no published information on response of forage chicory to P, or P acquisition strategies for morphologically different chicory cultivars. The literature suggests the following null hypothesis: ...

Secondary Metabolite Contents and Antioxidant Enzyme Activities of Cichorium intybus Hairy Roots in Response to Zinc

Hairy root systems are formed by transforming plant tissues with the “natural genetic engineer” Agrobacterium rhizogenes. In most plants such as Cichorium intybus L., hairy root cultures have proven to be an efficient system for secondary metabolites production. The effect of Zinc (ZnSO4), a heavy metal, was investigated at different concentrations (0, 1, 5 and 10 mM) on some secondary metaboli...

In vivo effect of dried chicory root (Cichorium intybus L.) on xenobiotica metabolising cytochrome P450 enzymes in porcine liver.

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes are widely studied for their involvement in metabolism of drugs and endogenous compounds. In porcine liver, CYP1A2, 2A and 2E1 are important for the metabolism of skatole. Feeding chicory roots to pigs is known to decrease the skatole concentration in plasma and fat. In the present study we investigated the effect of chicory on CYP mRNA and protein expression, as w...
